Status Update

Hello my wobbly friends. I've been away for a while due to a family emergency that's taken all of my attention for the last couple of months. I'm planning on writing about it at some point, but need more time to heal first.

To try to focus my mind on positive things, I'm going to spend more time writing, as well as finishing up the C. Kane update for the Kickstarter backers. I'm sorry to have pushed so many projects back, but family comes first.

The next review I'll be working on is for the new version of Dark Souls II on PS4. Here's a screenshot gallery until then: http://superwalrusland.com/gallery/index.php/Dark-Souls-II-Scholar-of-the-First-Sin-PS4

DS2 is the only game I've had a chance to play recently, but I have a decent backlog of content I need to finish writing from before. Lots of movie reviews to finish up, too. During my time away I saw Mad Max: Fury Road twice and Ex Machina and have plenty to say about both.

I'm definitely releasing the C. Kane update some time this month, even if only to backers. The game is still slowly rising on Steam Greenlight, but it might be a while before it makes it through there.

Thanks for your continued support.

Site Update

Apologies for the lack of reviews/articles lately. I've started work on a new short-form game that I'll hopefully launch next week and it's eaten up my time. I don't want to give much away, but here's a few hints: It's a linear, turn based RPG comedy. I want the boss fights to be legitimately fun little puzzles, but there aren't any other encounters. It's mostly story/joke driven and presented largely in grayscale. One of the heroes is a beaver.

Site Update

It's a new year and I'm feeling the need to give this blog a new identity. Content won't change, but I want something catchier than Bob Surlaw's Words of Mouth as a title, even though I honestly think that title's still funny. I've decided to rebrand the site as Wobble Reviews. Both readers and writers may now be referred to as Wobblers if you're into that sort of thing. I've purchased a new domain, WobbleReviews.com, which should be live momentarily. All old links will still work, for the sake of my own sanity.

Originally, this blog was meant to be much more about my game development, so having Bob's name in the title made sense. It's grown into something much different, even if the game development journals are still a part of it, so rebranding makes sense to me.

I'm going to have someone make a new, nicer looking banner to fit the site, some sort of logo, and possibly a new layout. I'm totally open to any suggestions, whether private or public. Let's hear them, my wiggly friends.

Site Update

I'd like to apologize for the lack of updates lately. It's been a very busy couple of weeks, but I have several reviews I'd like to get to soon. For games: Dead or Alive 5, Dark Souls (I want to wait until the Artorias DLC is out before writing this one), Marble Madness. For movies: Cosmopolis, Prometheus. I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to read my reviews so far; each month has seen more readers than the last, and I'm very grateful to each of you.

I'm also behind on development of Cool Guy Bob Surlaw, so the late November deadline I was aiming for for release is looking unlikely. I'd still really love to put it out this year, but I don't want to rush it. Until then, be sure to check out a preview of one of the songs from the soundtrack, composed by Glock & Mr8bit: http://soundcloud.com/glock-6/cool-guy-bob-surlaw-soundtrack

Site Update - Trek Reviews

When I started this blog, one of my objectives was to review every episode of Star Trek over the course of however many years that would take. Turns out, this isn't a whole lot of fun for me. I'm a big Trek fan, but writing about each episode felt more like work than fun and I found myself hesitant to continue watching a show I loved because I didn't want to get further behind in my review backlog.

For my game reviews and movie reviews, I can write about whatever fits my mood at the time and content flows easily; for something like the Trek project, I was required to write about each episode as I watched them, whether I had something to say or not, and that's really no fun for anyone. If you want episode summaries, Memory Alpha does a better job than I ever could. As of right now, I've got a backlog of 24 watched episodes waiting on reviews, and there's no way I want to catch up with that. Because of this, I'm retiring from reviewing Trek episodes. I'll be leaving the Trek Review Archive up for anyone who wants to browse the old articles, but frankly, they're not particularly good.

To anyone who read and enjoyed these reviews, I apologize. Hopefully the rest of the site is still fun for you!

Site Update

The Games, Movies, and Trek review archives have been updated. Instead of having an ugly, cumbersome spreadsheet to search through, you get lists and icons! It takes longer to load and can't be sorted but it looks a lot less horrible. It's still not beautiful, but it's the best I've got right now.

Site Update

Super Walrus Land has had a slight visual update, but the front page is still pretty terrible!

More importantly, there are now links on the front page to the collected Senator Surlaw saga and a variety of other one-shot stories. If you missed these when they first ran in HamsterSpeak, you might enjoy them now!
