Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (2014, PS4) - Adventuras Muy Delicioso

In my Best of 2013 article, I listed Drinkbox Studios' Guacamelee as my overall favorite game of the year, and it still holds that title even now that I've played everything I was interested in checking out for that year (the rest of my list would change a bit; Mario 3D World definitely deserves a spot.) With Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, Drinkbox revises the existing game, fully integrating new gameplay, two enormous new areas, more secrets, new enemies, and includes all of the original game's DLC and cuts many of its dumb internet meme references. The Super Edition takes an already phenomenal game and perfects it.

Review - Guacamelee DLC: El Diablo's Domain (2013, PS3)

El Diablo's Domain is the second downloadable content released for Guacamelee, one of my early choices for 2013's best game of the year. It introduces new content to the game that's largely aimed at players who have already gotten good at it, but like the main game, is balanced very fairly. I spent about three hours playing through this DLC, so its $3 price tag felt perfect.

Review - Guacamelee! (PS3, 2013)

Guacamelee! is the third title from Drinkbox Studios, following up 2011's Tales from Space: About a Blob and its 2012 sequel, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack. Featuring well designed, frantic beat em up action and super smooth platforming, Guacamelee! is an extremely good game with a great visual style. I have yet to play either of the Tales from Space games, but this one certainly makes me want to go back and give those a look. Guacamelee! is definitely my most pleasant gaming surprise of 2013. As a nice bonus, anyone who buys the PS3 version receives a free copy of the PS Vita version. I don't own a Vita myself, but that's a great extra.
